Black Mesa teaser now available

The Source retelling of the original Half-Life story called Black Mesa has released a very impressive teaser trailer for their release in 2009. Fans of the series will be especially impressed with both the maintained and new dialogue.

For those who are hearing about Black Mesa for the first time the aim of the modification is to provide fans and newbies of the original the fantastic story telling that was included in Half-Life with new technologies and resources available in the Source engine. It will re-introduce players to the character of Dr. Gordon Freeman and flesh out some of the more minor characters that have since in Half-Life 2 been upgraded to full characters. Of note is the inclusion of the now fleshed out Barney and Dr. Kleiner replacing the generic security guard and scientist.

Features of the game will include:

  • Detailed and interactive environments based on the original Half-Life game, including reconstructed multiplayer maps
  • Single-player, co-operative and deathmatch modes
  • Original music score by Joel Nielsen
  • Artificial intelligence that will dynamically think, react and interact with and about their environment
  • Normal, specular and parallax mapping utilized on world surfaces and models where applicable
  • A priority on gameplay and immersion factors such as ambience, logical functionality and interactivity
The finished modification will require one game to be installed that contains the Source engine from Steam or otherwise.

Check out the trailer below, just make sure you’ve got your speakers turned up.
